What is a KRONENBERG lift lock?
KRONENBERG GmbH is a German component manufacturer serving the lift industry. OCTÉ is an official distributor and reseller of door locks, lock accessories, retiring cams, switches, buttons and displays.
Landing door locks play a crucial role in the safety of lift users. When the car is in motion, it is essential that the landing swing doors remain closed in order to prevent falls down the shaft, i.e., the empty space where the car, counterweight and the cables travel. To do this, we install a landing door locking system which only releases once the car has stopped, in line with the door on the selected floor. A sensor placed on the car then signals the lock to release the landing doors. As soon as the car is in motion (up or down), the lift lock engages, thus preventing the doors from opening onto the shaft.
Lift safety can be further enhanced, in particular by using a lock featuring a switch-shunt coupling so that any separation of these two elements (when the swing door is open) will immobilise the lift car. Some KRONENBERG GmbH lift door locks have a double locking feature: these locks are bulkier since they incorporate an electromagnet and a 3-way sensor (see technical documents for more details).
All of these safety measures are governed in France by the 2004 Robien law relating to safety work on lift installations and the AFNOR P82-020 guide dated December 2004. In addition, they meet the traceability obligations under the lift directive 2014-33-EC.
